Watford 4 Watford: Local people supporting local charities

On Friday, December 10th, three local charities will be joining forces on the streets of Watford, to create awareness and raise funds for the work they do. Watford 4 Watford is an exciting new charity initiative which will see staff and volunteers from Herts Inclusive Theatre, Watford Mencap and Watford New Hope Trust, in bars, clubs and stations around Watford, collecting donations.

Caroline England, Director of Herts Inclusive Theatre explains;

‘This is a fantastic opportunity for local publicans and bar owners to show their support to these very worthwhile local charities. It is also an opportunity for the local community to show their support whilst enjoying their Friday night out.
Watford is a town with a very big heart and we hope you will help us make this an event which will be memorable. All funds raised will be divided equally between the three charities.’

Herts Inclusive Theatre (HIT) is a registered charity working with children, young people and adults through drama, movement, music, theatre skills and techniques. Its workshops encourage participants with learning and physical disabilities and those without to work together on an equal level and without prejudice. The money raised through Watford 4 Watford will go towards supporting HIT’s continuing activities

Watford Mencap supports over 500 children and adults in Watford and South West Herts who have learning disabilities. The money raised from Watford 4 Watford will go towards Watford Mencap children’s centre on St Albans road. Every year Watford Mencap needs to raise over £200,000 to support children with learning disabilities. This provides stimulating and fun activities for the children as well as much-needed respite for their parents.

Watford New Hope Trust exists to serve homeless and vulnerable people by providing accommodation and opportunities to rebuild damaged lives. They serve over 800 individuals every year and on any given night have 50 people in their houses and hostels. All proceeds raised from this collection will go towards their general running costs.

The Watford 4 Watford group would like members of the public to come along, on this special evening, and show their support whilst enjoying their night out. For more information see www.facebook.com/Watford4Watford or email watford4watford@live.co.uk
