Watford Mencap gets into the festive spirit with Christmas Tea Party

On Saturday afternoon, The Rising Sun in Croxley hosted the annual Watford Mencap Christmas Tea Party for the 6th year running. The tea party is an opportunity for all the members and those Watford Mencap supports, to meet up and enjoy a festive celebration before Christmas.

Over 100 people attended, and enjoyed a range of stalls and games including a raffle, tombola and guess the name of the bear. There was even a visit from Santa at 4pm, who wished everyone a Merry Christmas and distributed Ferrero Roche, kindly donated by Ferrero UK ltd, who are based in Croxley Business Park.

Other guest at the event included the Chairman of Watford Council, Alan Burtenshaw, the Mayor of Hertsmere’s consort, Geoffrey Silver and Holywell Councillors Nigel Bell and Jackie Connal

Councillor Burtenshaw commented;

‘It was really nice to be at the party last Saturday with everyone. In the current climate of austerity cuts it's fantastic to see so many volunteers giving their time to others. I know that money is always needed but giving your own time is just as important, perhaps even more so today.’

Sarah Maling, Fundraiser at Watford Mencap explained;

‘The Christmas Tea Party is an annual event for all our members. It’s a chance for us all to get together before the festive season, whilst also raising funds to support our Children’s Centre on St Albans Road. We would like to thank Ferrero for donating presents and The Rising Sun for Hosting the party’.

All the money raised will go towards Watford Mencap Children’s Centre, which provides care and support for children with learning disabilities whilst also providing much needed respite for their parents. In 2011, Watford Mencap will be celebrating its Diamond Jubilee. See www.watfordmencap.org.uk for more information.
