Barclays Bank Match Fund Valentines Disco

Watford Mencap held a Valentines Disco for all of its Leisure Together members and guests at the Mill End Sports and Social Club on Friday 11th February. The Event which raised £1352 was successful, thanks to the Leisure Together volunteers’ dedicated support to make the evening enjoyable for all. The project also received backing from Barclays Bank who has supported this event each year for the last five years by match funding the total raised

The UK Consumer & Community Affairs team said ‘We are delighted that we were able to add to the funds raised and to contribute to your work. At Barclays, we're really proud of our leading community investment programme. In 2009, Barclays invested £54.9m in community projects around the world and we have supported more than 58,415 colleagues in 31 countries to get involved with community activities.’

Lata Rees, Watford Mencap employee said, “The disco was thoroughly enjoyed by over 60 Leisure Together members along with their friends, support workers and volunteers. The temporary technical hitch with the music did not dampen the spirits of the revellers who danced the night away. We are so grateful to the Mill End Sports and Social Club, our volunteers and of course Barclays Bank for their continued support”.

Michelle, who is a mum of one of the Leisure Together members, explained “James had a wonderful time at the disco - thanks so much for all the hard work of everyone in arranging these kind of events. They really make the difference for youngsters like James and he is always looking forward to the things coming up.”
