Leisure Together’s Pool Club in 4th Year

Leisure Together members and volunteers celebrated Pool Club’s 4th anniversary on Thursday 17th March, by going out to dinner and playing a few games of American pool. The club, which started in March 2007, has always taken place at Rileys on Watford High Street.

David Rees, who has been a volunteer since the club first started, explained; 'Every three months we switch between playing American and English pool. At the end of the three months we have a championship playoff, where members battle it out to win a trophy. So far we have two championship winners Paul Whenman and Barry Bullen and its great how much everyone has improved.’

James, one of the members who attends Pool Club regularly, said; ‘I have been coming here for 4 years and last year I bought my own pool cue, as I really enjoy playing. I get to see my friends and we play doubles against each other.’

Riley’s member, Dean Bridges, donated a £100 pool and snooker voucher to the club, which he had won in a competition. Dean, who is in the South Oxhey choir, explained; ‘I come to Riley’s regularly and have always seen the group playing pool. It’s great to give the vouchers to Mencap.’

Leisure Together’s Bowling Club is also becoming increasing popular amongst members and would not be possible without the help of volunteers.
