Watford Round Table and Camelot present Watford Mencap with a cheque for £8000

On Tuesday 28th June, sponsors and organisers of the Watford 10k joined together at Watford Mencap Children’s Centre to present the proceeds of the Watford 10k 2011.

 The race proved to be more successful than 2010 with over 1400 runners taking part and over £11,000 being raised. £8,000 was presented to the Watford Mencap Children’s Centre and £3000 will be distributed to other worthwhile charities by the Watford Round Table.

 In attendance were representatives from the Watford Round Table, who organise the event, Mark Davis, Chairman and Tim Wood and Watford Mencap Fundraisers Sarah Maling and Lauren McEvoy. They were joined by Martin Sutton, Head of Propriety at Camelot UK Lotteries Limited. Camelot supported the event as gold sponsors for the third year running and also entered a team to compete.

 Martin Sutton, Head of Propriety at Camelot, explained;

‘There is a strong emphasis within Camelot on supporting the local community. Many of our employees come from the local Watford area and it is important for us to support a charity relevant to them. It is our third year supporting the Watford 10k and we are delighted to do so. Visiting the Children’s Centre, you can really see the difference the money makes to those with a learning disability in South West Herts.’

 As well as presenting a cheque to Watford Mencap, the Watford 10k committee also awarded prizes to the runners that raised the most sponsorship this year, Gemma Falconer, Ross and Bethany Ludlow and Merryn Parr.

 After thanking Camelot for their continuing support, a further thank you was also extended to The Mothercare Group Foundation for sponsoring the 1k race, and to bronze sponsors Everyone Active Watford Central and Esporta Riverside Health and Racquets Club, Northwood.
