Watford Mencap Members Enjoy an Afternoon at Local Funfair

The Amer Funfair once again welcomed Watford Mencap members for an afternoon of fun on Wednesday 18th August at King Georges Recreation ground, Bushey. Over 100 Watford Mencap members, services users, volunteers, and staff got to enjoy two hours of free rides and were also treated to a hot dog and drink.

Funfair owner, John Amer, explained: ‘We have been doing this for 8 years now and it gets bigger and bigger every year. It is great for the kids as it is a safe environment for them to be in and every year they enjoy it.’

Hertsmere’s Mayor Peter Knell and his wife June Knell came along to join in the fun. Peter said: ‘We always support local events and this is just fantastic. Hertsmere Borough Council does what they can to keep the residents happy and in my view these events must carry on.’

Maureen Wilkins, who has a daughter with a learning disability, explained: ‘This is fantastic. Lorna really looks forward to this every year. It is lovely that we have the funfair to ourselves; everyone here has been so helpful. It’s not like going to a normal funfair.’

Watford Mencap would like to thank Hertsmere Council and John Amer for organising the event. We look forward to going again next year!
