Hoses are out for Learning Disability Week

Come along to Watford Mencap’s Charity Car Wash. The event will take place at Berrywood, a residential care home run by Watford Mencap. Residents will be cleaning cars on Saturday 25 June, 11am to 4pm. Cars will be left sparkling for a suggested donation of £5.  No need to book.  Just drive to Berrywood, 130 Berry Lane, Rickmansworth, Herts, WD3 4BT.

Berrywood is a Rickmansworth based care home to 5 adults with learning disabilities.  Residents are encouraged to live their life according to their individual choices and wishes.

Stuart Catton lives at Berrywood and came up with the idea of the Charity Car Wash.  He said ‘I want to clean cars to help Watford Mencap.  I like doing jobs.  Watford Mencap are wonderful people.  They are very kind.’

Community Fundraiser Amanda Jenshil said, “Many people are unaware of the issues facing our clients.  The residents at Berrywood are very much a part of their community.  This is a great opportunity to support local people with learning disabilities.”

Learning Disability Week takes place from the 20 to 27 June 2016.  The week raises awareness of learning disabilities.  These include conditions such as Autism and Down’s syndrome. Watford Mencap will be running a variety of events during the week.  Keep an eye on www.watfordmencap.org.uk for more details.
