Support Watford Mencap’s Christmas Appeal

Watford Mencap have launched their Christmas Appeal, aiming to raise £5000 for their Children’s Centre on St Albans Road. Watford Mencap are urging supporters, old and new, to donate what they can this Christmas to help support more children with a learning disability and give more families a break in 2011.

Children come to the Children’s Centre to play and have fun, while their parents get a break and time to spend with other children.

Watford Mencap are affiliated to national Mencap but receive no funding from them. The Children’s Centre at the Dome roundabout provides a range of support and care for children with learning disabilities including Afterschool Clubs, Youth Clubs and holiday Playschemes.

Herts County Council has already notified Watford Mencap of funding cuts to their Saturday Club. The charity needs to raise as much money as possible to continue to support the other Children’s Services.

£10 could pay for one child for an hour at Afterschool Club

£60 could feed all the children at Afterschool Club for a week

£110 could pay for three play workers to support 9 children at an Afterschool Club session

Veronica Chamberlain, Funding Manager at Watford Mencap explains:

‘If you are looking forward to a peaceful Christmas, we hope you will remember local children in need. In this time of funding cuts, it is so important for families to know they can count on Watford Mencap for support, so please give generously.’
